Established by our first recipient, John Boumgarden, “paying it forward” for other candidates. This scholarship is available to a Calvin-bound RAK Scholarship Award candidate.
ELISE JACOBS: “Walk to Inspire Others”
On the day of the porch collapse, Rob was suppose to be in Tanzania on a much anticipated Mt. Kilimanjaro trek with college buddies and his father. The US Government had issued a travel warning so the planned adventure was cancelled.
Elise Jacobs, a business associate of Rob’s at LaSalle Bank, knew of this dream and Rob’s disappointment. In January, 2011, inspired by Rob’s dream, Elise climbed and summited Mt. Kilimanjaro. In her effort, Elise solicited friends and family to donate to Charity:Water. Charity:Water provides accessible, clean water wells to remote areas in Africa. Two such wells were built using the funds raised supporting Elise. Elise asked that the well featured above be named in honor of Rob. Our deepest gratitude, Elise, in creating a memorial in Rob’s name that will impact health care for families in Mai Girar, Ethopia.
