2018 Recipients
Jack Barry
University of St. Thomas, Saint Paul, Minnesota
Major: Civil Engineering
Currently: I’m enjoying life in the Twin Cities at University of St. Thomas. I’m pursuing a Civil Engineering Degree and a Division III national championship with the Men’s soccer team. I’ve been able to intern in the Chicagoland area with Bluff City Materials in the summer of 2019 and will most likely end up working in the Twin Cities for the Summer of 2020. I’m also involved on campus in the Catholic Men’s Leadership group and the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Impact of RAK Scholarship: The Koranda family and the rest of the RAK scholarship family have been a wonderful and humble group of people trying to get the best of everyone. The relationships built are such a positive reminder of how blessed I’ve been and an inspiration to live more selfless. It’s an honor to be recognized with all these great people.
The RAK application and interview process stays with me as a great experience for preparing me for the real world. Beyond that the scholarship committee’s care for people represents just what makes Naperville North such a great place and reminds me how precious my time was there.
Sarah Wastek
Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona
Major: Double Major in Psychology and Ceramics
Currently: I’m still at Arizona State University in Barrett the Honors College. I’m now double majoring in psychology and ceramics and I’m hoping to go into art therapy.
Impact of RAK Scholarship: The scholarship has offered me a network of people to reach out to across the country and a reason to come back to Naperville every summer if possible: the golf outing!
In high school the scholarship gave me a standard to strive towards for myself and my character. I hope to continue to embody the traits of Rob that I tried to in high school throughout my entire life and career. An updated photo is attached!
